Our agency was founded in 1912 as Slavia Agencies, Inc. located in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. In 1987, Ron Hammerberg purchased the agency which is currently known as First Iowa Insurance Agency, Inc. Our longevity in the marketplace combined with competitive products, programs and personal customer service distinguish First Iowa from our competitors.

Ron Hammerberg, CIC
Ron has several years of experience in the insurance industry. Upon graduating from Wartburg College he chose to pursue a career as an agent with Equitable of Iowa. After spending many year
s working as an independent agent and as a principal, it was time for a change. He knew he wanted to work with his brother and eventually own an agency. He set out in search of a smaller agency with a good track record and a lot of potential. That is when he purchased Slavia Agencies, Inc. in 1987. Since then, Ron has successfully grown the business currently known as First Iowa Insurance Agency, Inc.
Ron enjoys playing golf, spending time with his family, traveling and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.
Bob Hammerberg, CIC
After graduating from Wartburg College, Bob took a position as a commercial underwriter with Traveler’s Insurance. In October of 1987 he joined his brother, Ron, at First Iowa as an agent. His specialty is commercial insurance working closely with manufacturers and contractors. Bob has been in the insurance business for over 20 years.
Bob keeps busy coaching his kids’ baseball and football teams, spending time with his family and tries to find time to enjoy a little golf as well.
